About NACER
NACER is the brainchild of Mike Grisenthwaite, a cancer survivor, now in remission, who during his 7 years of battling cancer completed numerous endurance events including Ironman Triathlon and the whole Tour de France course in 2007; he passionately believes that appropriate exercise can be beneficial to virtually all patients and survivors.
For the past two years Mike has been working with specialists in this field both here in the UK and in the USA to in order to collate the evidence and research in an attempt to understand his own personal situation. What he found convinced him of the need to bring this information to a wider audience here in the UK.
Latest UK statistics show there are almost 300,000 new cases of cancer per year and that in total around one million people are living with cancer at some stage. Overwhelming evidence from the medical scientific community throughout the world has shown that appropriate exercise conditioning improves patient/survivor outcomes both physically and mentally by improving their self esteem and quality of life. Studies have further shown that exercise prevents the incidence of secondary cancers by 50%.
The National Association of Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation (NACER) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to following aims;
- To promote exercise as a complimentary component during patients and survivors cancer "journey".
- To act as a training and resource centre to promote the beneficial effects of exercise for cancer patients and survivors.
- To represent the interests of private and public organisations involved in the cancer exercise and rehabilitation field.
There is information and advice available for both patients and medical professionals through this site and through the links to our associates.
The vision is to establish a centre of excellence here in the UK which will focus the expertise available in one place.
